All bran bran buds

I received a request to review my bran buds last week when I posted about Just Pineapple.  These two treats make up my most consistent breakfast item.  I realized awhile ago that I need to be conscientious about my fiber intake and so I hunted down the highest fiber cereal I could find.

All Bran Bran Buds came out heads and shoulders above the rest with 13g fiber in each 1/3 cup serving.

The cereal is bland so it makes a good addition to many other things.  I’ve added it to yogurt, oatmeal and just plain milk.  Unfortunately the buds don’t stay crunchy like grape nuts do and so they get a little mushy when mixed with wet ingredients.  This is definitely something that could be a positive or a negative depending on what you prefer.  I eat it for the crunch so it is a negative.  I have started to eat it dry and really like having something munchy and crunchy for my breakfast.

Fiber One is a 1/2 cup serving for 60 calories, 1 fat gram, and 14 grams of fiber. That said, your All Bran has 2 grams more soluble fiber than Fiber One, which IMHO, makes it a healthier choice. Still, I like FO for breakfast. Go figure.

I have an unfriendly bran muffin recipe that you can use All Bran in. It's yummy, but not calorie/fat friendly.

I think you're so smart to add this to your food for a great fiber boost. I have 1 serving for breakfast, but maybe I should copy you and add some All Bran to my snacks. =)

Thanks Jo! I didn't realize Fiber One had more fiber! I feel like it is definitely a taste texture thing after awhile, but when I need to mix things up I'll add in the fiber one (I always think of it as a Hungry girl faux-fried ingredient-not breakfast:) I'll pass on the unfriendly bran muffin recipe! Too tempting!

I just tried the organic Wheatabix flakes cereal and it is really good!! I was scared by the picture on the box because it looks rather twiggy + dry, but it was slighty sweet and super crunchy. I like that the serving size is 1 1/4c. and has 170 cals and 10g fiber. Check it out! =)

Fiber One is artificially sweetened. Aspartame does not agree with me. Bran Buds has no artificial sweeteners.
